The UKSD Women and Girl’s Leadership Group will be focused on the empowerment, education, and encouragement of women and girls within our community. This group will be centered around fostering a connection between female students from our local area and female students from diverse cultures throughout the world.
Something we have found imperative within our work is the importance of building leadership skills, personal confidence, and a sense of community within females. It is when we begin to do this that we see great success in not only individuals but also groups as a whole.
As a group, we will build a foundation of understanding about particular obstacles and challenges we face in our communities and society as women, and we will begin to propose ideas for not only combating these challenges but also ideas of how to promote equality and opportunities. We will then explore cultural diversity and connect through letters, video correspondence, and community service endeavors with girls and women from places such as the West Indies, Africa, the Middle East, and in other areas of the United States. Because we have previously established close connections with organizations in these areas, we will have yearlong access to meaningful discussion and relationship building.
Furthermore, we will also implement the Coaches Across Continents Curriculum centered around the Ask For Choice initiative. We want girls to gain knowledge about societal stigmas, pressure, ethics, and belief systems, and then build respectful and meaningful discussions around how to enable girls and women to have access to more choices regarding their lives and their futures.
We will also work to complete community service projects where we will connect with girls who may be less privileged than ourselves and assess in which areas we might be able to help. This may be through donation of educational supplies, feminine products, health and wellness supplies, athletic equipment, etc. Last but not least, our groups will also organize a campaign, event, etc. where we do something within our very own community to promote girl’s empowerment in areas such as education, athletics, etc. We believe that if we build a culture of female support and encouragement, we will see a rise on camaraderie, self-esteem, and leadership skills among women and girls worldwide.
